Inclusiveness in Music
There are as many musical expressions as there are cultures and so music’s diversity expressions parallels that of language and culture. If someone has grown up in a culture that has provided them opportunities to learn that genre of music such as gospel music, they will know gospel music more deeply than those without such experience. Cultures outsiders to a musical style will come up with contradictory impressions of the music or maybe entirely confused as to its logic and thus its beauty too. In order to understand a musical culture, it’s necessary to learn elements of its practices. With its discrete differences across cultures music of every culture takes time and energy to understand and value. Music expresses and connects to human emotion, so it also runs the gamut from positive to negative messages and influences. Making music in a social context increases communication, cooperation, and empathy between and among group members. Music is a bridge to cultural understanding and collaborations among musicians bridge the divides that have arisen artificially from diverse races, ethnicities, religions, and political beliefs.
