Understanding diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) can be pivotal in any musician's business journey. In music programs at every level, DEI go hand in hand. A grand diversity of musical cultures is essential if a music program is to extend beyond the limited and exclusive scope of European and Western art music expressions. Inclusion and equity can be defined in multiple ways that are vital to a more multicultural music education. The most obvious reason is a recognition of music as good for one and all. Because music fulfills so many intellectual and social-emotional needs, it cannot be viewed as superfluous and disposable.
